Welcome to Adventurous Family Tours. To help make your trip smooth, enjoyable, and stress-free, we have prepared the following travel guidelines and essential information for your upcoming adventure.
1. Passports
All travelers visiting East Africa must hold a valid passport with:
- At least six (6) months validity from the date of return travel
- A minimum of two to four blank visa pages, depending on destinations visited
Please confirm passport requirements early to avoid travel disruptions.
2. Visas & Entry Requirements
Visa and entry requirements vary depending on your nationality and destination country.
Kenya
Travelers entering Kenya may require an Electronic Travel Authorization (eTA) or visa prior to arrival. Travelers are encouraged to apply in advance through official government portals.
Tanzania
Visitors traveling to Tanzania may obtain visas online or upon arrival depending on nationality.
Rwanda
Rwanda offers online visa applications and visa-on-arrival services for many travelers.
Uganda
Travelers visiting Uganda are generally required to apply for an eVisa before departure.
Visa regulations may change without notice. We recommend checking official immigration websites or consulting your embassy before travel.
3. Vaccinations & Health Requirements
We strongly advise all travelers to consult their healthcare provider or travel clinic before departure.
Recommended considerations may include:
- Yellow Fever vaccination
- Routine travel vaccinations
- Malaria prevention medication
- Personal prescription medication
Certain destinations may require proof of Yellow Fever vaccination, particularly when traveling between African countries.
Carry medications in original packaging together with any supporting prescriptions or medical documentation.
4. Plastic Bag Restrictions
Several East African countries, including Kenya and Tanzania, have restrictions on plastic carrier bags.
Travelers are advised to avoid carrying:
- Plastic shopping bags
- Duty-free plastic bags
- Disposable plastic packaging where possible
Non-compliance may result in confiscation or penalties at airports and border points.
5. Luggage Guidelines
For safari travel and domestic flights:
- Soft-sided luggage is highly recommended
- Most local flights allow approximately 15kg (33lbs) including hand luggage
- Hard-shell suitcases may not be suitable for safari vehicles or small aircraft
Please pack lightly and efficiently for easier mobility during your journey.
6. What to Pack
We recommend carrying:
- Lightweight neutral-colored clothing
- Comfortable walking shoes
- Sunglasses and a hat
- Sunscreen and insect repellent
- Camera and binoculars
- Personal medication
- Light jacket or sweater for early mornings and evenings
- Swimwear for beach or lodge stays
Laundry services are available at many lodges and hotels.
7. Travel Insurance
Comprehensive travel insurance is strongly recommended for all travelers.
Coverage should ideally include:
- Medical emergencies
- Trip cancellations
- Emergency evacuation
- Lost luggage
- Flight disruptions
Travel insurance remains the responsibility of the traveler.
8. Money & Payments
Major cities and tourist destinations widely accept:
- Credit cards
- Debit cards
- Mobile payment services
However, we recommend carrying some local currency for:
- Tips
- Small purchases
- Rural or remote locations
Exchange currency only at authorized banks or forex bureaus.
9. Staying Connected
Mobile networks and internet services are widely available across major destinations.
Most hotels, lodges, and camps offer Wi-Fi access, though connectivity in remote safari areas may occasionally be limited.
International travelers are encouraged to check roaming charges with their mobile service providers before departure.
10. Safety & Responsible Travel
Your safety and comfort are important to us.
Please:
- Follow instructions provided by guides and staff
- Respect wildlife and local communities
